Indian Agri-Tech – genuine growth creating vast opportunities

The reforming Indian PM Narendra Modi has set the modernization of this sector as one of his top agendas. Agriculture is a critical sector in India’s economy and contributes to ~15% of the nation’s GDP while employing more than half the population. A growing economy and rising income levels have led to a rapid increase in demand for fruits, vegetables, milk and milk products, meat, eggs and fish.

Meanwhile a decline in livestock populations and low yields has driven demand for scientific and technological solutions. Indian State Governments and private sector players are keen to explore solutions provided through the latest machinery, precision agriculture, breeding, disease prevention, health and nutrition. The India veterinary healthcare market, estimated at £750 million in 2014, is set to reach £1.7bn million by 2020, with a CAGR of 15% over the forecast period.
