CEREALS REVEAL FOR SWEETING BROS LATEST INVESTMENT

Visitors to Cereals 2025 will be the first to see the latest addition to Sweeting Bros Limited's fleet of agricultural drainage trenchers.
The East Yorkshire-based company has added a Mastenbroek 40/20 drainage trencher to its machinery portfolio as it prepares for a busy summer.
Sweeting Bros, which will be on stand 506 at Heath Farm, Leadenham, on June 11th and 12th, established its drainage contracting business in 1968 - a busy period for Agricultural Drainage with the introduction of FHD grants. The company bought its first Mastenbroek trencher in the mid-1970s to install agricultural drainage on the family's farm near Howden, East Yorkshire.
Today, under the guidance of Dan Sweeting, Sweeting Bros continues to design and install agricultural drainage schemes but has diversified over the years into sports turf drainage, watercourse maintenance and construction, and civils projects, such as cross-country pipeline and cable installation.
"I'm pleased to be able to say that we're busy at the moment and have a lot of work in the pipeline for this year and further ahead," says Dan. "Some of the work we'll be doing requires something a little bit bigger and more powerful than what our current trenchers can deliver. By adding the 40/20 to our fleet, we can also take on different types of work, projects that require wider and deeper trenches."
Powered by a 428hp Volvo Penta Industrial Diesel EU stage 5 engine, the Mastenbroek 40/20 offers depths of 0.3 to 2.2m and widths of up to 650mm. Accuracy is guaranteed as Mastenbroek has incorporated the latest PTx Trimble GPS system into the grade control system. The 40/20 also offers a side-mounted cab, which appealed to Sweeting Bros.
"Our operators really like the visibility they get from the side-mounted cab rather than the traditional rise and fall cab," says Dan. "The cab on the 40/20 is also very comfortable, and the controls are very well positioned. We are very much looking forward to putting the 40/20 to work alongside our other Mastenbroek machines following Cereals."
The 40/20's first project will be an agricultural drainage scheme in Yorkshire, where it will work alongside Sweeting Bros' Mastenbroek CT12 crawler trucks. In addition to four CT12s, Sweeting Bros also owns two Mastenbrek 20/15 trenchers and a 15/15.
"Leonard and Dan are some of our longest and most loyal customers," says Mastenbroek's commercial director, Christopher Pett. "In fact, they were one of the first people to purchase a Mastenbroek trencher when John Mastenbroek formed the company in 1977. Since then, both our businesses have grown, and we're delighted that Sweeting Bros is still delivering exceptional agricultural drainage schemes and venturing more into civil projects, such as cross-country pipelines and cabling projects, which the 40/20 is ideally suited to."
