Outstanding Crop Marketing Services and the Top OSR Varieties from United Oilseeds

UNITED OILSEEDS MARKETING Stand: 302

Farmers visiting Cereals 2021 will be able to obtain expert guidance on the latest conventional and hybrid oilseed rape varieties and the most profitable marketing options for their oilseed rape and other break crops, from independent national farmers’ co-operative, United Oilseeds (Stand No.412A).

Although the lowest crop area for some years, this year’s rapeseed harvest is looking promising with many farmers reporting healthy crops. Market prices have also increased, meaning growers stand to make well over £400 per tonne for their OSR with quality bonuses included and gross margins that make OSR the most valuable break crop to grow.

“Those growers considering including OSR in their rotation this autumn may be well placed to take advantage of the huge home market demand for rapeseed,” says United Oilseeds Managing Director, Chris Baldwin.

“The home market demand for OSR is approximately 1.9 million tonnes. Last year, the UK harvest produced just over half this amount and this year’s harvest will likely produce only  a slightly higher tonnage.  This shortfall in supply is bullish for prices and will continue into 2023.”

Farmers also have an excellent choice of OSR varieties from which to choose, whether they be conventional, hybrid, clearfield and clubroot, or varieties for HEAR and HOLL specialist markets.

“There are numerous varieties available that help growers to produce a successful crop, including ones featuring “stacked traits” such as high autumn and spring vigour, plus resistance to pod shatter,  RLM7 Phoma, Light Leaf Spot and Turnip Yellows Virus, “says Mr Baldwin.

“Three rapeseed varieties of particular note are Acacia, Aurelia and Matrix", he continues.

Visitors to the United Oilseed stand will be able to find about these and other varieties as well as the most profitable marketing routes for oilseed rape.  United Oilseeds has the largest tonnages of OSR under pool management in the UK and offers growers three marketing pools to meet their individual movement requirements.

“It may be convenient to take an ex-farm price sometimes, but the most consistent and time-saving way to counter market volatility, get a good return and beat the average market price, has consistently proved to be through the United Oilseeds marketing pools,” says Mr Baldwin.

Despite the pest pressure on crops, challenging weather systems and the pandemic,  United Oilseeds last year announced a record profits redistribution to its members of £320,000.  This means the independent co-operative has made profits redistribution payments to its trading members over the last 14 years totalling £4.91 million.

United Oilseeds offers a range of key benefits to its trading members that help to improve their own businesses’ bottom line including:

  • Profits share payment on turnover
  • Produce of area contracts with no penalties for over or under production
  • Independent testing of all oilseed rape moved to store at harvest
  • 50 stores conveniently located across the UK with competitive storage costs
  • Prompt and efficient harvest movement with no surcharges for cap loads
  • Export opportunities from 22 UK ports
  • Advanced payments against harvested crops
  • Interim payments 28 days after crop movement to store
  • A network of experienced United Oilseeds Area Managers

All of these benefits are available to United Oilseeds members and joining the co-operative costs only £15.00 for life membership.  United Oilseeds also trades Beans, Linseed, Oats, Peas and Hybrid Rye. Details on break crop contracts and how to join will  be available on the stand at Cereals and are also available at www.unitedoilseeds.co.uk.
