Lance Charity
Flood Farm, Crowland
Lance is a 4th generation farmer. To stay in the industry he took on his own council farm. His first application was accepted, with the council keenly interested in how Lance plans to farm “differently”, firstly by incorporating sheep on to the arable farm by using cover crops and a native breed of polled Dorsets sheep, which he chooses to lamb in September, fitting in perfectly with the arable farming.
Moving to a direct drill and reducing the chemical and fertiliser applications on the farm has seen an increase in soil life and wildlife.
Lance has successfully stacked different businesses on the land make the farm profitable, diverse and opens up new possibilities, making the most of the land he has taken on.
