Senior Research Scientist, Rothamsted Research

Dr Sam Cook is a Senior Research Scientist working in the Department of Biointeractions & Crop Protection at Rothamsted Research UK (http://www.rothamsted.ac.uk/).  She leads a group working on ‘Eco-IPM’ developing ecologically-based approaches for integrated pest management strategies. Her work is focused on oilseed rape cropping systems.  She has particular interests in the pollen beetle, cabbage stem flea beetle, and the use of trap cropping and push-pull strategies to reduce or eliminate the need for insecticides.  Her team are also involved in researching improved monitoring and decision support systems in oilseed rape crop management as well as methods to improve conservation biocontrol potential in the crop via natural enemies of crop pests.  She is the convenor of the entomology subsection of the International Organization for Biological Control Working Group on ‘Integrated Control in Oilseed Crops’ http://wwwuser.gwdg.de/~iobc/index.html
