Host Farmer

Thoresby farms 2,900 hectares (7,200 acres). 2,200ha of this is arable land, with the remaining 700ha used as grazing for ‘heritage’ livestock.  About half is heavy land on a soil known as Keuper Marl with a combinable crop rotation of wheat, oil seed rape, spring beans, rye and spring barley. The remainder is light sandland with the same combinable crop rotation, with the addition of sugar beet, maize, potatoes, carrots and onions all of which need carefully managed irrigation to cope with dry summers.

Thoresby Estate has been owned by the Pierrepont family since 1601. Titled for much of the time, the last Earl Manvers died in 1955 and the estate was inherited by his daughter, Lady Rozelle who passed away in 2015. Gregor Pierrepont is the present incumbent.

For more information on Thoresby entertainment venues, please contact Gareth Evans by phone at +44 (0) 1623 822301 or by email at gareth.evans@thoresby.com
