The Farr Family have been farming in Hertfordshire, Newnham for four generations. All of the farming is completed in-house by their highly skilled farm team. The team uses the most modern machinery to ensure accurate and timely applications of seed and sprays, helping reduce costs and maximise outputs.
They grow a range of crops including wheat for both milling and livestock uses, malting and feed barley, oil seed rape, sugar beet and peas. Most of the milling wheat will be sold onto Weetabix or McVitie's biscuits and the malting barley is sold on for brewing beer.
To protect and enhance the environment and wildlife, all of their fields are surrounded with 3 and 6 meter grass and wildflower margins.
In addition, AE&WA Farr also started growing chickens seven years ago in a purpose built site which enables them to achieve high standards of welfare and a great environment over which they have full control.
The Farr Family are always striving to diversify in all sectors of the business. Farming has changed dramatically over the past 20 years and some buildings have no farm use for example. To that end, the farm now designs and develops solutions to meet the needs of the rural community, providing commercial offices, warehouses and residential properties.
