The Host Farm

About the farm

The Farr Family have been farming in Hertfordshire, Newnham for four generations.  All of the farming is completed in-house by their highly skilled farm team.  The team uses the most modern machinery to ensure accurate and timely applications of seed and sprays, helping reduce costs and maximise outputs.

They grow a range of crops including wheat for both milling and livestock uses, malting and feed barley, oil seed rape, sugar beet and peas. Most of the milling wheat will be sold onto Weetabix or McVitie's biscuits and the malting barley is sold on for brewing beer.

To protect and enhance the environment and wildlife, all of their fields are surrounded with 3 and 6 meter grass and wildflower margins.

In addition, AE&WA Farr also started growing chickens seven years ago in a purpose built site which enables them to achieve high standards of welfare and a great environment over which they have full control.

The Farr Family are always striving to diversify in all sectors of the business. Farming has changed dramatically over the past 20 years and some buildings have no farm use for example.  To that end, the farm now designs and develops solutions to meet the needs of the rural community, providing commercial offices, warehouses and residential properties.

About the events venue

After running a music festival for 10 years, the Farrs developed an ideal, scenic venue for all kinds of outdoor events. From concerts to corporate events to weddings, Bygrave Woods at Newnham Farm can accommodate it all.

The Bygrave Woods site encompasses 100 acres of usable fields, 6 acres of woodland and 1.5 miles of hard standing entrance and exit track.  The site has water access, traffic management, planning and other event amenities including a full license for larger crowds.

Located centrally near Baldock at crossroads of major thoroughfares, Bygrave Woods at Newnham Farm is also a very convenient location for event access.  The main event field is flat surrounded by rolling fields, adjacent to track for loading and unloading, with established grass on free draining soil.
